When the temperatures start to drop and the leaves begin to fall, it’s time to shift your home maintenance focus from summer upkeep to fall prep. A few simple steps now can save you costly repairs later and help your property look great heading into winter.

Whether you’re in downtown Annapolis, Eastport, or the surrounding suburbs, here’s your go-to checklist for fall home exterior maintenance.

1. Wash Away Summer Grime

Summer humidity leaves behind dirt, mildew, and algae on siding, decks, and driveways. A professional power wash or soft wash removes buildup before it sets in, protecting your home’s exterior surfaces and keeping your curb appeal high.

Pro Tip: Fall is one of the best times to wash your home because temperatures are moderate, and it will let you start the winter with a clean slate.

2. Clean Your Gutters and Downspouts

Clogged gutters are one of the leading causes of water damage. Once leaves and debris start to collect, they can block drainage and cause water to back up under your roofline or pool around your foundation.

Quick Fix: After the majority of leaves have fallen, clear your gutters and downspouts, then flush them with water to ensure proper flow.

3. Clear Out Leaves and Yard Debris

A layer of fallen leaves might look pretty, but it can smother your grass, invite pests, and lead to mold growth. Removing leaves, sticks, and garden waste keeps your lawn healthy and your property tidy.

Local Solution: If bagging and hauling leaves isn’t your idea of a relaxing weekend, our team can take care of it for you. We offer full-service leaf and debris removal throughout the greater Annapolis area.

4. Inspect Your Roof and Siding

Before winter weather sets in, take a walk around your home to check for missing shingles, damaged flashing, or siding that’s come loose. Things that appear to be small issues now can turn into costly leaks once the snow and ice arrive.

If you’re not comfortable inspecting your roof yourself, schedule a no-pressure roof wash; professionals often spot problems early while cleaning.

5. Refresh Walkways, Decks, and Patios

Cracks in your driveway or loose boards on your deck can become hazards once the temperatures drop. Fall is a great time to power wash, reseal, or make small repairs before freeze-thaw cycles make things worse.

6. Schedule a Junk or Bulk Haul

Fall cleanup often reveals clutter, such as old furniture, garden waste, or storm debris that’s accumulated over the year. Scheduling a junk haul before the holidays frees up space and keeps your yard, garage, and shed organized.

7. Winterize Outdoor Features

Before the first frost, drain and store garden hoses, cover outdoor furniture, and shut off exterior water lines. If you have a pier or boat, give it a final rinse (or have us do it!) before wrapping up for the season.

A little fall maintenance goes a long way toward protecting your property and preserving your home’s value. And if your to-do list feels overwhelming, our team can help with power washing, leaf removal, junk hauling, and more so you can enjoy a clean, worry-free start to winter!
